
It’s a semi-vicious cycle: I take my unwanted fashions to two trade-in clothing shops in Portland. The fashionista at the counter scrutinizes my pilly sweaters, scuffed heels, the top I bought here last week which (in the true light of day) turned out to be all wrong for me. They offer me a percentage for trade-in, and I’m back in the stacks, looking for the next piece of fabric to fill the skirt-shaped hole in my heart.
