The Sweet Notions Story
Long-time friends, Shannon Hopkins and Jessica Stricker have worked together on various projects over the years. In early 2008, over a cup of coffee, they discovered a shared interest in social enterprise and their desire to create a business that focused on more than just the bottom line. They wanted a business that would transform people's lives and raise awareness of the damaging effects of “fast fashion”. Like any two red-blooded females Shannon and Jessica share a passion for shoes, handbags and accessories (they also come with successful previous careers in the fashion industry).
They believed that:
-
they truly did have a good idea
-
the goal of collecting 10,000 accessories was achievable
-
less than $200 in start-up funding would suffice
-
the ultimate goal of zero waste wasn't unrealistic
May 2008 saw a series of Sweet Notions Mobile Boutique events hit State-side with success. With spruced up airline trolleys, and all of the products donated from friends and family, Sweet Notions popped up boutiques in homes, Churches, wine bars and salons.
The results were overwhelming. They were well on their way to achieving all the initial goals and proving the business model of Sweet Notions.
